The Interview
How
did you first get into radio? I was working as a club jock and heard that the newly launched Radio Broadland was looking for someone to present the dance show. I sent in a tape and I just talked on it saying that I’d love to work in radio and was willing to learn. They then invited me down and asked me there and then to do an audition (which was just awful!) I kept ringing up to ask if I could use the spare studio to practice and surprisingly they said yes. After about 6 months of trying I stood in for the then presenter of the dance show, Dave Brown, and ended up being offered the show after a couple of months.
Which shows have you
presented during your time at
Radio Broadland?
I started on the dance show,
then the evening show, the afternoon show, mid morning show and now
breakfast.
Have you got any interesting stories about callers on your shows?
Quite a few. I suppose the last
memorable one was a caller who only seemed to hear Rob and I in
short bursts. It ended up being a hilarious few minutes trying to
make ourselves understood – perhaps you had to be there!!!
Have you ever had to deal with any major technical problems while on air?
The worst one was dealing with a
power cut some years back, it kept going dark in the studio and we
waited for the generator to kick in which seemed like ages. I just
kept on talking into the mike for some strange reason!
Have you ever said anything
embarrassing
during your time on air?
Quite a few times, it's live
show. It happens sometimes!
Describe a typical morning
for you... Up at 5 o/clock – eat a banana – drink a cup of tea – sling on some clothes – slap on some makeup – my hubby Paul drives me into work as there aren’t any car parking spaces – I’m in work by 5.25 – the show goes out 6 til 10 and after that we have meetings with our programme controller about the show - and then sit and plan something out for the next day.
If you weren't in radio,
what do you think you'd be doing now?
I worked in a bank when I left
school, so maybe something along those lines. I liked working with
money!!
Have you ever made any
appearances on TV?
Just a few appearances on a
topical quiz show on Anglia, and I voiced Crimestoppers on Anglia
for 3 years.
How would you describe
yourself? I always find questions like this difficult to answer, you’d probably have to ask people close to me like family and stuff to give you an answer. I just love doing the job I do and never forget how lucky I am to be doing it! Sounds cheesy but its true.
Where is Chrissie now? Chrissie Jackson is still on air every weekday morning from 6am till 10am on Heart East Anglia.
